Frequently Asked Questions

Lessons

I'm ready to rock! How do I get started?

Awesome! Register your interest through the lessons page form and I’ll get back to you with more information and my availability.

If I am fully booked, I’ll let you know when a spot becomes available.

Do you accept one-time students as well as regular ones?

New students must first go through my introductory program which teaches the basics of the curriculum, and so that I can assess their current skill level.

From there you have the choice to book regular weekly lessons, or to book casual lessons as it suits you.

Do you work with students of any skill level?

I work with students of all levels, from children (Blue Card approved) to adults.

What equipment or books do I need?

Thankfully you don't need to purchase any drum books or resources, as my entire curriculum is hosted in the online learning platform!

It's helpful if you have access to an acoustic or electronic drum kit, but you can start with a practice pad and drumsticks. Students of mine can receive discounts on drum-related purchases through a local music store in Cairns.

Do you have facilities for left-handed drummers?

The traditional right-handed setup is most commonly used in the drumming world.

My studio facilities provides right-handed drum kits to accommodate the majority of the students. My left-handed students have not faced any difficulty in learning on a right-handed drum kit.

How long will it take to get good at playing the drums?

While this is a great question, the time taken to become proficient on the drums varies from student to student. There is no easy answer!

However, my students are typically able to play a basic drum beat after their first lesson.

With consistent practice, students can achieve proficiency with basic drum beats, fills and rudiments in as little as 3-6 months.

It may take 1-3 years to reach an intermediate level, and may take 5 or more years to become an advanced drummer.

Ultimately, it depends on the amount of time and effort that’s put into practice.

It’s important to note that learning to play the drums is an ongoing process. For beginner drummers, I recommend 30 minutes of practice 3-5 days per week to achieve consistent progress.
