Behind the drums.
I’ve been playing drums for 30 years, with experience spanning live performance, studio recording, session work and education. My background covers everything from rock, metal and progressive music through to funk, pop and groove-based playing.
I’m drawn to music that gives the drums a real voice: strong pocket, dynamics and feel, but also odd metres, displacement, polyrhythms and more adventurous rhythmic ideas when the music calls for them. Technique and complexity are tools, not the end goal; the part still has to serve the song.
Over the years I’ve recorded for artists and projects, worked both remotely and in the studio, performed everywhere from small venues to large-scale festivals, and contributed to internationally recognised and award-winning original music. I’m equally at home building a considered studio part as I am bringing energy and precision to a live set.
Education has been a major part of my career as well. I spent almost a decade running a drum school, teaching players of different ages and levels and helping them develop technique, vocabulary, musicianship and their own voice behind the kit.
